Thinking about Design

The most important aspect of re-designing any room is to decide first how you are going to use it.

Defining the use of a room as bedroom, sitting room or dining room is easy, but for example, will you only use your dining room in the evening for entertaining?

If so then the fabric and wallpaper you choose must look wonderful in artificial light, otherwise it will not have the impact that you are after.

Once these considerations have been addressed, then the more personal aspects come into play... colour, texture and style.

Wallpapers are Back!

Wallpapers are definitely back in vogue, they never really went away, but the designs are bolder with the emphasis on 'feature' walls.

Great news for all of you with walls that have a less than perfect finish.

Everybody Looks Through a Window

Windows are an intrinsic part of the design of a room and are therefore very important. They set the stage for the overall style of a room whether it be minimalist or sumptuous.

Just as important as the curtains, are what you decide to display them on.

Curtain poles have come a long way and you can have anything from simple wires to hand-painted coordinating poles with wonderful finials.

Some of these finials can be matched to tiebacks.

Blinds don't have to be dull either. There are unusual beaded trims, leather pulls, braids, and key tassels to finish.

Finishing Touches Count

Think about those finishing touches, they make all the difference.

Trimmings on curtains and pelmets, wonderful feature tassel tiebacks and beautiful tall elegant lamps really give a room the wow factor.

Coordinating headboards and quilted throws give a bedroom elegance, finished off with a few well placed scatter cushions and the look could have come straight from one of the many home interior publications... except that it's your design!

If you are the creative type and would like to make your own curtains, don't forget that we sell everything you would need... Not feeling confident enough? Why not enrol on one of our curtain making workshops!
